I think the argument is that some Republicans are voting along with MAGA because they are putting career over country, or are afraid of MAGA violence, and they will shift their positions as soon as their perceived self-interest changes.

Others are true believers.

Putting career over country almost seems like a pre-requisite for becoming a successful politician in the United States.

I can name only a small handful that seem to consistently adhere to some set of ethical principles.
