Agree. However, Wray is setting a horrible precedent! The FBI Director is appointed for a 10-year term to keep the position from becoming too political. Biden did not fire Wray even though Wray is a Republican appointed by Trump. Wray should honor the institution and not resign.
It seems like Trump possibly had something on Wray since this seems very odd. Wray was an atty for Gazprom and other Oligarchs at his law firm so who knows?
It’s protecting the federalist society, no way Wray wanted to run back ground checks on maga. They’re handcuffed to one another. Wray was there to be the eyes and ears under the Biden admin for the Mitch McConnells in congress. They’re both evil and both dirty.
The issue is Kash Patel taking over, but Wray resigning is an issue, too. Everyone is making TFG path to dictatorship easy & unchallenged. Senators cave to pressure to have a political "future" instead of doing the right thing in opposing unqualy people. Trumpism is Terrorism
#ChrisWray is doing exactly what I would have done; "Run" and run fast. American voted for this. Don't expect people to give up theirs and their own livelihood. Is role is a 'job'. He can quit whenever he wants to; same as anyone else. Run, and run fast is the right thing to do.
The issue is the FBI has always been an overpowered institution that does not play by the rules, has always been political & has a deeply conservative DNA. And now it's a big fucking problem because the future guy in charge might actually use the FBI to its fullest problematic potential!
I just looked over Patel's enemy list. Most of these people can bite back. If by some stroke of stupidity in the universe he's confirmed and actually tries to go after these people, he may just find himself in a deep, unrecoverable hole. In other words, FAFO.
It permits Trump to more easily get his way at the FBI and who he wants. You approach the end of a free America the way you approached prosecuting and investigating Trump. Like an intellectual exercise. There’s nothing intellectual about it. He should be in prison. You failed.
But the issue with Wray is anticipatory obedience, which IS worth discussing. Every person who bends over for the orange turd so s/he can be fucked is another loss and another reason I am SO EXTREMELY ANGRY WITH THESE FOOLS. Remember Neville Chamberlain??? Appeasing a tyrant work well?? NO NO NO NO
Yes, worried about Patel taking over, especially given the spineless GOP who will allow his nomination to sail through.
But are we simply ready to throw our hands up in defeat and walk away? Is that how we are going to set the stage for Trump? We are truly lost if this becomes okay with us.
Yes that’s where the focus should be Andrew. However, it seems everyone is being cowardly in this quitting in advance. This is how you get an autocracy.
Had I been Wray. I would have stayed and let donny felonie fire me by tweet. Then I would call a presser and point blank say in the camera. Tell that fat orange felon he's a pussy and bring his fat ass here and fire me in my face. I would then go back to work.
He’d need senate confirmation, which *could* happen, but has a lot of hoops that could delay it too long I think. Not sure if it’s viable. I do think that would be an incredibly valuable thing for Biden to do with his remaining time, though.
Like…nominate Mueller for the job again! He’s got all the files on Trump’s election interference…put him back in charge of his old agency so he can safeguard it from Trump’s cronyism and vindictive stooges.
Kash Patel is truly a joke - intellectually, professionally, morally, ethically. His sole claim to fame is unbending slobbering loyalty to Trump and that is ALL Trump cares about in his declining mental state. @GOP senators - show backbone and reject this despicable person or you’ve sol your souls.
It’s both. It’s the erosion of norms mean’t to depoliticize law enforcement. All by itself the resignation wouldn’t be a huge deal, but it’s a small piece of a much larger problem.
Wray is in the bag for them. Always has been. Never took any of the nations threats from Republicans seriously. He only investigated who he absolutely HAD to. He's the Susan Collins of the FBI. All talk, no show. Said what he had to on front of cameras and Congress.. that's it
Wray’s resignation put the nail in the coffin for the FBI. IMO he disgraced the entire department and dealt a blow to democracy and the decent American people. I’m so disappointed in him. And the FBI. Especially after learning all they knew about Trump’s treason. They’re impotent.
No courage.
But by him resigning, Patel cannot be made an acting because he was not confirmed in any other position or within the last year. So he will HAVE to go through a hearing and the deputy FBI director will take over until then.
it wasn’t a risk it was a promise. if he isn’t going to do anything to stop Trump he might as well quit instead of giving Trump the pleasure of firing him.
Thanks. Yes, I understand.
I still wish President Biden would to everything possible to detail/aggravate Trump, even if it only lasts a short time.
Sigh.
They trumped up (sic) phony charges against Wray. By resigning, it DOES take the wind out of Trump's sails. No grand inquisition to prove Wray deserved firing. Honestly, I quite like the deflation it has caused in Trump's puffed-up imperialism.

Also, WTF was Comey thinking when he abandoned his post 5 years in? Dude really screwed things up
Frump would have pushed him out . Why does everyone handwring?
Chris Wray must be called out for his cowardice. We must hold individuals who obey in advance accountable, if only rhetorically, for their actions.
No courage.
Wray may have prevented it.
