On our list of places to visit—weirdly never been there (we tend to want to visit warmer places than Seattle!) I’m glad you are having a great experience. We do have family near Liverpool so England is a good option if it comes to that.
Was in Liverpool a few months ago good people, the same populism has affected uk politics. For now there's a new sane government but the right has gone crazy just like most other places as well. Good luck with what's to come, let's hope for the best.
Thanks! Our relatives in the UK are all progressives and quite upset re the USA "situation". I think we are headed to a very bad place. Glad we have an escape route but our adult kid is here so we stay. We also live in a fairly progressive state so at least we are safe -- for now.
I've seen a lot of my countrymen clowning on Europeans in general and Brits in particular for their incompetent flirtations with rightwing populism, and it's all aged TERRIBLY.
I saw a Redditor post that when he was 12 he heard “beating your meat” felt amazing, so when he was home alone he punched his balls as hard as he could and threw up on the floor and cried for 2hrs and he was still smarter than someone who voted Trump and then googled “what’s a tariff” on Nov 6
Blaming Democrats for messaging only goes so far; people have a responsibility to get engaged and learn on their own. It's not like these people are doing taste tests of dog droppings, for Pete's sake.
A lot of the elections around the world, I was trying to understand why they would elect.. oh yeah. This is a human condition problem. Not just America.
That is another debate entirely. If you look at the split ballots in swing states, and the fact that we lost every single swing state, it sure looks like a decisive message of some sort to me.
It’s an unfounded assumption to say that a Biden ticket would have changed that in a positive way. Something happened, but it’s far from proven that that was it.
Maybe so. My bigger point is that Democrats need to pick a candidate and stand by them. This public pillorying of our own people does more harm than reacting to today’s poll.
I think the polling was probably getting a lot of ‘protest’ responses. People registering frustration, not thinking clearly how they were actually going to vote. Every wing of our coalition was in a panic with their heads on fire over some thing or another at the time.
No. That isn't what happened. Dems got a big boost when they broke from Biden. It's only when the party moved back to the right and started running the same damn campaign as Biden had been running and cavorting with uber-conservative Liz Cheney that the bottom fell out.
A part of me thinks you’re right but we’ll never know. I think this turning on their own is a huge problem for the Dems, again and again. What if we had had white male Al Franken to run this cycle? I mean, no guarantees, but without cannibalism we’d have a deeper bench to begin with.
So you interpret all these people splitting their ballots in swing states as some kind of message about Cheney? The Dems have done the reasonable Republican thing my whole life, I don’t remember it ever being a deciding issue. This election is fraught with anomalies, and we did an anomalous thing.
People were searching on Election Day why Biden wasn’t on the ticket. It would seem some or much of that may have turned around, or there was something systemically wrong in their polling. My bet is those people didn’t vote Harris. Michigan would have been the big fight.
No one is disputing that the polling existed. We are disputing its methods and/or accuracy. It’s an outlandishly ridiculous number. The result should have simply been questioned.
I thought the same thing the other day I was like well this is our Brexit then after a short pause I thought "No No this is definitely going to be way worse"!
The only cold comfort I can derive from this is that the incredible damage Trump, Elon, and Heritage are going to do to the country will make the Republican party a non-starter politically for generations.
They're going to fuck so many people over, I can't see how the country will forgive them.

😩
On the other now Brexit becomes even stupider because a key rationale for brexit was that they had the US led liberal order and didn't need Europe
"Hold my beer, watch this."
😢Oh damn we did Trump twice..
USA: Hold my beer.
UK: How bad can Brexit be?
US: Hold my beer!

What borders on stupidity?
