So it turns out, when you have banking regulation, there's no incentive for criminals to break into your house and threaten to carve up your genitals to get you to transfer cash to them.

I often think back on the story of the bitcoin cruise by @pennyred.bsky.social on which the late John McAfee was the only one who took the wider personal security implications of cryptocurrencies seriously and had brought private security/thugs to the cruise.

Every ransom is demanded in crypto, meaning that one of crypto's most reliable buyers is victims who dont want it but are forced to purchase it in exchange for a decryption key.
