Labour and Tories have hit their heads of the austerity brick wall so long they've got brain damage. The fact that austerity under whoever, has left the system broken is not going to change just because you're in power and are too chicken shit to make a actually hard decision and a the wealth.

IMO the point about the size of the financial sector is central to the debate. The financialization of the UK economy has been a disaster in well-being terms. All economic policy/political decision-making seems to be about feeding this monster, to the detriment of all our lives.

How about the rich, to whom all money in the current system seems to flow? Tax the rich. They won’t notice any difference in their (rather extravagant) standard of living.
