If we assume that our politicians reflect the electorate then the answer to your question is that Scotland cannot remove racism (& IMO bigotry is racism too) from its politics until we remove racism from society.....but it helps if politicians can point out unacceptable behaviour amongst their own.

Yes but the other way around. Racism is an example of bigotry. And there are other examples too. Bigotry is unreasonable prejudice towards groups. So race (racism), sexual orientation (homophobia), religion (e.g. Antisemitism) etc.

We're dancing on pinheads here but I tend to associate bigotry most obviously with Religion...in the case of Scotland for example the racism is anti-irish hiding behind the bigotry of anti catholicism.....but hey we can just call it all prejudice!!

Totally. I associate bigotry with racism but yeah it's the whole prejudice gamut.
I've not come across anti Catholicism personally.

In central Scotland where I grew up it was rife; blatant & subtle....where what school you attended determined what factory you worked in...'closed shops' as ever supported by the Unions. Now it seems the focus is more on colour than faith weirdly the racists look just like the bigots used to

In fact I recently moved back to my home town. I was coming back through a park where as a kid I used to play organised football and they had something I never had: two wee black laddies lacing up their boots. I expect they get picked first. Although to be fair kids don't see race/colour like that.

I think all religion is obvious bs but I'm not going to be mean to anyone about it. I try to be nice to people with mental health issues.
And where I grew up everyone was white. Literally every single kid at either of my schools was white.
