I’m not sure we can conclude much from the CA %. Even if Tesla sales were growing you would expect the % to fall towards 10%. And if (as is likely) liberals are turning against Tesla the blue pockets in the red states would turn also. So the % might not change.

I think the impact can only be measured globally, not in the CA share of US sales. But I also don't have a clue on how to measure it. Is it even measurable? A survey across drivers would probably be the best.

I for myself will never buy a Tesla again.

SpaceX's valuation is a paper valuation. Tesla is public. If TSLA tanks because people are opposed to Elon, SpaceX's valuation will also suffer.

Tesla sales in California have fallen, on a YoY basis, for the past 5 quarters (as the table shows). Something is going wrong for Tesla in this market.

CNDCA asked “Is California past peak Tesla?” as far back as their 2Q 2024 report. Looks like they were onto something.

One approach is to track whether California's share of Tesla sales has been decreasing over time.

If there is a negative impact, it would likely be most noticeable in California, given it’s a left-leaning state. We’ll continue to monitor this percentage and see if it continues to drop.

February sales are the ones I really want to see. Anything post the Nazi salute and DOGE being in headlines daily is particularly toxic to the brand. European sales will likely plummet as well as US.

Not that we’re surprised of this but rather surprised that such research doesn’t come from accredited journalists who cover Tesla and sing their praises on the next 5 trillion dollar company.
