The Herbalist and the Earl by Frances Fowlkes is ... fine? It really wants to be a locked room mystery but also Bridgerton but also show off the author's botanical research. 3 stars at most.

my drafts always fall apart and the fourth wall shatters as soon as I try to wedge in a bit more of my research just because I think it’s cool…. It’s so sad that my audience doesn’t want to do a deep dive on say, the Parisian sewer system (lol)
The Princess And The Conductor by Rachel Ann Hubert is VERY silly. Like Princess Diaries movie level low fantasy silly. The editing is nonexistent. I do, however, genuinely like the orchestral conductor male lead. I want to show this to my musician boyfriend to get more context for my opinion.
DNFed "Stalking The Mafia Man" 10% of the way in. Cannot express how fucking disappointed I am. I was hoping for a clever riff on the Mafia genre but I couldn't see anything through the terrible editing, the pick-me main characters (BOTH OF THEM!! HOW) and the in-text links to other books.
Like. Ok. I get that the genre has issues - that's why you wrote this book AND why I was so excited to read it, Tierney Storner - but the prose was BAD.
DNFed The Courtship Calculation by Laura Tretham. It's not awful I just don't particularly care for an American heroine whose entire personality is "plucky American who doesn't get manners" in a Regency.
Also why are the characters telling me how they're feeling?
God, today is not my lucky day. DNFed A Little Sinful by C. Jordan because there's just. No chemistry. It's fine but I don't need a whole book about these two. If it's a Vegas romance I want it to feel a little weirder and more out there than this.
