Beautiful! Weβve had a few hanging around over the last few weeks, but I havenβt had a chance to check this week much. They may have migrated to the big city!
Their calls are do wonderful! I wonder if we have a family from last year, as there are sometimes four or five of them. But over the winter, they have disappeared as usual many times.
Beautiful crest-up image! I think your complaint is acknowledged! I second the motion. Had Merlin out on the porch this morning and, by sound, idβd white-breasted nuthatch, robin, and house finch. Also saw robin, crow, and dark-eyed junco in the yard.
We have a nesting pair of scrub jays hereβ¦wonderful since theyβre large enough to keep squirrels at a distance. Actually nesting pairs of most every species
They are so pretty despite somewhat unpleasant sounds. Some think they are bullies at the feeder but Iβd say they just get what they need because they are a bit bigger than a lot of other feathered friends
Iβve got a family of 4 blue jays here in southern Michigan. Hope you have a spring flock come! The red winged blackbirds just arrived back this week - AND itβs going to be 73 degrees tomorrow!
Bird flu, all populations down. Next will be insect die off followed by mammals. But the wealthy people will have more money than they know what to do with. Would you like ketchup on your C notes?
I just recently got into feeding birds and watching them. They are so beautiful and their songs so relaxing. I have not seen any Blue Jay's. Are they normally around at certain times of the year?
It's because they are all at my house, and they are very noisy. They have a particular shriek letting everybody know the Food Bringer has bothered to show up, and then we are inundated with those and everyone they know. I think the most we've had in one tree at the same time was 10. (One tree.)
That pose, what a capture. This is one of those pics that makes me think "ok this needs to be a sticker". At some point I'll have to see what collection would be good and ask people how they'd feel about it.
I used to see them a lot as a kid in NYC (55-60 years ago, I'm afraid). No more. I moved to Michigan a few years ago and we have plenty of blue jays, cardinals, woodpeckers, doves and... almost no pigeons.
Not the best photo, but earlier this year I started setting out food and blue jays and a cardinal have visited! I couldnβt believe how excited I was to see them.
I was thinking no too. βΉοΈ But Maryβs lineage is still here. Maybe Janet can get a banding station set up in her yard and we can just track them all! π
My wife bought bright red ear buds because she lost one mowing the lawn. Then she dropped the red one.
Iβm positive the jays now have a red bauble at their nest. I hope they like Jack White.
Oh my gosh a real blue jay! So beautiful! I had mistakenly thought the birds with blue around my area are blue jays. That was a long time ago I had thought that. I don't think these birds live near me, unfortunately.
Here in northern ontario my bird feeder is raided with them.we mcgivored a net on feeder to allow only the smaller birds to get to feeder but those blue bullies found a way... lol we usually put extra loose seeds out for them. Beautiful birds but man can they eat!
In Detroit I feed raw peanuts in the shell for the squirrels and jays and seed for the birds. No feeders because I am in an apartment so I just toss on the ground/pavement. In my last 6th floor apt I put the peanuts on the window ledges for the jays. It made for great kitty tv.
Comments
I have three pairs that routinely stop by for peanuts.
Before too long, they'll stop by to show their babies the snack bar here.
Thanks for all the great photos you share.
May the blue jays be with you! π
Looked up just in time to watch him fly past me to a nest in my neighbors yard.
Big guy too!
Beautiful bird!
And Iβm putting in a complaint if that doesnβt happen π€£
