he was a Ball Player. Not a saint, Not an elected Politician not anything else. Just a Ball Player. and yeah he had problems like everyone else. So what's your point.
I did a quick search on Cobb and saw that his 'reputation' is built on a biography written by Al Stump. Several updated accounts of his life dispute much of what Al Stump wrote. But my point is that his reputation had no bearing on his consideration for entry into the HoF.
Performance like him gambling on games he played a role in and lying about it for decades before writing a sleazy memoir? This argument has never convinced me but it's also why I don't like baseball. https://bsky.app/profile/minnesota2.bsky.social/post/3lp3sk22z6c2h
He spent the remaining years of his life repenting for betting on baseball by moving to Las Vegas where he funded being a degenerate gambler by selling “sorry I bet on baseball” inscriptions for 100 bucks a pop
lol they absolutely do judge based on personality. That’s why Curt Schilling, a notorious asshole and lunatic with obvious HOF stats, will never get to Cooperstown.
Smugly saying character is not a factor in HoF voting, getting angry at female sportswriters--yup we have a level 1 "Sports Micropenis Guy" on our hands. There are only 100 million guys like this in America, clogging up newspaper comment sections across the nation. https://bsky.app/profile/minnesota2.bsky.social/post/3lparcdpvfc2d
Fwiw this guy is wrong as technically baseball actually has it written into the voting unlike other sports. “…integrity, sportsmanship, character…”
I didn't feel like mentioning that just because it is so boring to know that and see this argument put forth so confidently over and over. But but but Ty Cobb!
People here in Cincinnati are obsessed with him. I remember a car dealership offering lunch with Pete rose if you bought a car on a certain day. Pete rose was in the commercial and offered no enthusiasm, no charisma, and no apparent desire to eat lunch

He was never my favorite but didn’t deserve a lifetime ban.
