We always had slop movies when we were young but to see one that looks this awful do this well? It's not surprising, I know what a cultural phenomenon Minecraft is, but it's still kinda disappointing, I guess

The closest thing to the Minecraft movie 20yrs ago -- a cultural zeitgeist for American youth that dominated the box office -- was... Harry Potter? The Star Wars prequels? Sam Raimi Spider-Man? Transformers and Twilight if we go a little later?

Lol I mean look, I hate the prequels. Actually just finished EP1 maybe 10min ago. Haven't seen it in 10+ years but wanted to do a series rewatch before Andor. It's still a bad movie! But at least it has some semblance of a creative vision? That's more than you can say about A Minecraft Movie™, no?

This was always going to be a hit, it didn’t really matter what they did, for sure. I *do* think it the creative approach was different, it could have been even more successful. As a parent, I make purchasing decisions and absolutely have zero interest in this, so my kids are gonna have to wait.

I didn’t suggest it wasn’t a success. Clearly, it is. But of course there’s always room for more success and to reach/appeal to an even wider audience. Fans/kids would wanna see this no matter what you do here. Could be two hours of Steve’s head spinning in a toilet.

Yea i think there's something to be said for crossover appeal.

The kids obsessed with the game dragged their parents to see it and gave it a comparable opening weekend to something like Inside Out 2, but is it gonna have the same legs? Idk. Maybe? A B+ CinemaScore isn't great for a film like this.

Minecraft is enormous, one of the biggest IPs out there yet it's barely talked about in our circles so people figured it would fail for "looking bad"
