In Chicago in January, my friend talked about how cold it was. I just brushed them off. "It's really not that bad." The next day, I lost one of my gloves, and I legitimately started to worry my fingers were frostbit. I apologized to my friend. "I guess I just prepared better than I thought."

Yeah, I think the temps were something like 9 degrees, wind chill negative whatever. Numbers didn't matter, it was just COLD. Inhumane cold. But at least I left town the day it became an ice storm (my friend said I was probably on one of the last planes out).
