Me too. But the news was never about facts, or the format would be very different, and they'd cite sources.
News is a possible event framed by the reporter's biases, knowledge and diligence. There's no good way to understand the quality of a story unless we know about the subject matter already.
I’m surprised they haven’t just proposed to only publish headlines to grab attention. Or maybe the AI is to create an article for anybody who tries to actually read the story
There's more money in lying to idiots who want to feel good about supporting terrible things, and money is all that matters to the mainstream media. It's a very bad situation.
Exactly. They are looking to fill a niche which isn't news. Newspapers used to be a lot of reporting sprinkled with a lot of ads (which you could ignore or shop), business section, sports section, human interest section, comics. I'm still expecting reporting as news.
Sigh. This may be the last straw for my WaPo subscription. I believe in storytelling. It has a place in journalism - in long, in-depth pieces. Not daily news. A pub whose news values storytelling over truth is not worth reading. Plus I fear “for all Americans” signals “following the MAGA line.”
