I’m now a third of the way through reading IT and I’m loving every second and have finally hit a stride in reading where it’s tough to put down (a stride that has been tough for me to hit lately)

oh I read that one! I used to read all king's stuff back when he was a new author. (the shining book is better than the movie)
I think my fave was the stand
I’ll have to check both of those out! I love love the movie the shining and haven’t heard anything about the stand so that will be a fun one to go into blind. If those are anything like IT, the books are undoubtedly goin to be better than the movies.
a year before I was born haha we started having little gremlins 3 years ago and ever since the reading list has grown and very few have been crossed off it
Absolutely. I started reading IT before our second was born and continuing through and I must say there is something so… prescient with reading King while having a newborn
This is what I assumed too! But my goodness if the IT book doesn’t offer up some truly fascinating and spectacular pathways for what IT is, as opposed to the movie where it’s just a transforming clown (which tbf isn’t the worst thing in the world)
Haven’t seen the new, I highly prefer the books. King is by far the greatest living author, possibly the best ever. He’s a masterful storyteller, his plotting is evenly paced, and his characterization is without parallel. Moreover, each story is unique. 😁
💯, and the way he describes the scenery and the setting, 🧑🍳💋!
I tried reading him when I was way too young and it locked a door that I’ve only recently begun to open and I must say it’s happening at the best time.
I can def see why you prefer the books though, they are fantastic.
I’m glad you’re giving this work another shot. 🙂 In IT, the world is treated as a character — in quite a few of his books — it’s impactful, especially to people of a certain, those of us who grew up without play dates, cellphones, or much supervision. We could die any moment, in quicksand, an…
abandoned freezer, at the hands of a stranger in a van. I cannot tell you how many times I was warned not to come home with tetanus or rabies, because those could kill me too. And our bullies used fists and sticks and stones, not mocking us on the internet. And every neighborhood had its own…
I’ve a feeling I’m gonna feel the exact same! The size felt daunting at first but it’s never felt insurmountable, which I think credit def goes to the way King writes (even after seeing the old and new movies at least 20 times too)
I read this book when I was fourteen. It saw me through a really difficult time (parents were splitting, my sister was becoming ill with a terminal illness and just being a teen in general). It was the story of friendship that really made me realise how books can take you to another place…
I’ll have to check out the Dark Tower books! I’ve not seen the movie about that either so i think I’ll start with the books, though even with IT there is so much the movies either gloss over or change entirely (which I understand, maybe the series they’re making will remedy some of that)
Oh awesome they’re working on a series! I’ve had really good experiences with audible too but it’s sometimes either too fast or too slow for me depending on what I’ve got playing
I read that like 28 years ago when I went on a huge Stephen King binge and read most of his books at the time. His books usually gave me goosebumps lol. I really liked 11/22/63, The Stand, and Insomnia.
Oh very cool! I tried reading one when I was way too young and ever since it’s been tough because I was so scared (which is odd because I love scary movies and Clive Barker). I’ll have to check those out too! I’m gonna be going on a King bender after how good IT has been to me
11/22/63 and Insomnia aren’t really scary. 11/22/63 has to do with a time portal to stop the JFK assassination and it’s been a long time since I read Insomnia, but I don’t remember it being scary. The Shining IS scary, but you’ll understand what’s going on in the book better than the movie!
Oh that’s interesting! I don’t mind if they aren’t scary either I think I like the mix that King offers. That Shining movie is a fav but yes it’s confusing as all get out. I enjoyed the Doctor Sleep movie too so I think I’ll have to do a double readathon of those two and the two you mentioned
Ever seen his house? It’s got gargoyles around it 😂 He lives in Bangor, Maine. Supposedly he dreams a lot of his story lines and that’s why he sleeps during the day and writes at night. If he sleeps at night his dreams become even more horrid. I can’t even imagine!
I haven’t but I am very jealous that sounds awesome I love gargoyles. What a fascinating process!! I don’t sleep at all which accounts for my unique insanity, but maybe I’m just doing it wrong and I need to become a vampire author
Yea in The Shining, the book, it’s actually scarier than the movie imo, kinda gets in your mind and under your skin. It the only movie that Stephen King didn’t help on too. Ever noticed he always appears in the movies, he doesn’t with that one because he wasn’t consulted.
