The argument for higher frames isn't just latency though. Motion clarity is my biggest argument for it. A 100FPS+ game looks miles better than the same game at 30fps.

I'll turn Frame Gen off for MP games, but for SP I think it's great. And the latency is still quite low all things considered.

I agree with the 30 argument, but the input latency is already a problem for people at 30 and you're not really supposed to be using frame gen at things less than 60 anyway for that reason. Motion clarity does make sense though for certain people.

I guess my bigger problem with it is what we're calling "performance" when the added frames are not benefiting in the way high frame rates traditionally are intended to. It feels like putting a sticker on the speedometer and adding speed lines to the windshield so you look like you're moving faster.

These DF comments explain my issue with it better than I can. I just don't understand enthusiasts spending soooooooo much money on these cards and high refresh rate monitors that don't care about what was previously THE justification for those types of hardware being needed.

Playing devil's advocate again, if someone doesn't use these things for competitive games but already own this hardware for competitive games, then at least visually this can bring the other stuff they play casually up to par with what they're used to seeing. Weird selling point though to me.

For me, it’s like a genre or type of gameplay mechanic preference. If you’re going to want to play a game at the highest FPS, 4k native, w full path tracing (even though most competitive games don’t really do that) without frame gen then you’ll have to pay $2k+ USD for the highest GPU.

If you’re more strapped, then you can walk the compromise line of lower FPS, 1440, and lower path tracing. The added benefit (with the caveats you’re bringing up) of frame gen and upscaling allows people who still want to compete on cheaper GPUs, to have the option of higher FPS and quality
