May 9th is certainly the 70th anniversary of the very first Muppet series Sam and Friends (Im planning a separate pic celebrating the 70th of the Muppets which will hopefully be finished this month) and Disney even stated it's Kermit's birthday in various official material. (2/4)

However several other representatives from Henson have rebuked this including Jim Henson's daughter Lisa Henson (who we do know for sure was born on May 9th, so Happy Birthday to her as well). I suppose it's still up for debate. (3/4)
