If even one innocent is killed (and they have) the punishment is too severe. In my opinion, justice isn’t served by vengeance but by mercy with life imprisonment.

I think Biden did a good thing, but is someone is opposed to the death penalty on moral or ethical grounds then that opposition should be absolute.
To make exceptions implies that the opposition has something to do with how heinous the crime was .

Clemency is partly political and presidents need to weigh the benefit of their actions against the risk of public backlash that could exacerbate public anger toward other defendants and unthinking demands for vengeance.

Oh, I understand completely why he’d do it but if there is anybody who has to worry less about political blowback I don’t know who it could be.
