some items with high profit margin may stay at the same price with costs eaten by the importer

some other non-tariff items may go up due to
- increased demand
- staying afloat by hiking prices of both tariff/nontariff items to have lower % per item
- abusing customers' expectations of price rises

notice how in all cases its americans paying for it.

less profits may still mean job cuts for importers for example.
less sales are bad for jobs in a similar way, affecting all of the supply chain (less warehouse people, less logistics people, etc).

No its to be expected. Tarriffed products will drive people to alternatives that up until now were niche players. Demand will outpace the supply of those niche replacement goods and thus the price will rise accordingly.

The economic data isn’t showing prices increases yet. But…part of the reason is that consumers seem to be pulling way back. April retail sales came lower than expected this morning and consumer confidence is in the toilet. If we get a big consumer pullback AND higher prices (stagflation), buckle up.

Yeah, folks *really* haven't started to think what 10% tariffs are going to feel like when they properly hit. To say nothing of 30% on China. They're still too distracted from the shiny object of 145% tariffs.
