Gorsuch suggests that the Supreme Court is effectively discriminating against Native faiths and favoring mainstream religions by allowing the government to destroy a sacred Native site. (I certainly agree that SCOTUS tends to favor Christianity over all else!) www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...

"native rights are like Christian cathedrals, we must protect them!"
On the other hand, if he could always be this principled, why not simply BE MORE PRINCIPLED???
He can't. He didn't choose this. This is just something that manifested and it stuck hard enough to be part of his core as a person. The rest of his core is shit. The nice thing is, this core isn't tainted by the rest but the rest isn't made better by this shared value.
Now here's hoping he continues to apply that principle consistently... and grows a few dozen more. I might actually listen attentively when I hear he's spoken up about something, then, instead of groaning.
they are things like “all government regulation is illegal” and “Donald Trump should rule us like a king”
I don’t know why this is the only good principle he holds but it is
I thought it was tied into some things, but he's systematically checked them off, one by one. It's like this one bit has been switched for him.
A friend hypothized that he had at some point a really close friend (first love? something?), but I don't know.
(1) A Native American tribe is, legally, a different country
(2) When you make a treaty with a different country, you should do what you said you would
I think this plays pretty nicely with his vision of a pared-back federal government
Either whatever has him so obsessed with Native rights will triumph, or he'll lock up & collapse at the contradicting imperatives.
I just wish he weren't so right-wing on everything else.
