Between the mutual hatred for leaf blowers and the poignant whimsy, I think it was fated. And, dagnabbit, you're gettin' a follow, too. (Turkeys and leafblowers are daily menaces to my sanity.)
I'm definitely no expert, but I wouldn't be going without comfy shoes I could run in, some protective eye and headgear, lots of water, disabling biometrics on phone and a number of other things.
No no, you should not only offer a take but you should posit that it is THE take and that successful protest is a completely homogenous thing between all movements, cities, populations and circumstances and that there is simply One Correct Way to do things rather than lots of different ones
I've been to quite a few protests over the years, but they were mostly women's issues or marriage equality marches. Sunscreen, good shoes, and signs stuff.
I'm approaching Saturday with a backpack full of protective gear I hope we don't use. Unknown territory for us as well. 🤞🏻
Sometimes, we dont need to have a take on things. Either things are out of our range or because some others have said it better. It's a good way to be.
And there is no cowardice in skedaddling when it gets wild. One of my coworkers is down indefinitely due to a concussion she got 'cause she didn't move at the right time.
Relatively. She pretty much has a constant headache, has a hard time focusing, blurred vision... It was a good bonk. She's on medical leave for the next few months.
Maybe. But every idea you might come up with is a potential tool against a dangerous adversary. Feel free to suggest ideas. Those are some of our most potent weapons — ideas. It’s why Trump wanted to ban them at the border.
Because you or someone else are likely to get tear gassed, beaten, shot with gas canisters, beanbags or rubber bullets, trampled by horses, or put through some other kind of hell.
Yes, of course one has to assume a certain amount of risk (more or less depending on the situation), but I'd never go so far as to say that one needs "experience" to exercise a fundamental human right. That just sounds like meritocracy taken to an unhealthy extreme.
Maybe that isn't what he meant, but I still would never use the phrase "experienced at protests". "Experience at tactical warfare", would be more appropriate. The vast majority of protests are not violent, though, and claiming the one needs "experience" to "protest" promotes the myth that they are.
What are you, new to the internet? If you know the word, you’re an expert in the concept. Now give us takes. I need content or else I might start thinking or something.
As someone who has been to protests off and on since high school in the 1990, my best advice is to take your guidance on how to participate helpfully from the organizers, ideally without imposing extra demands their energy or time.
