you will note that Zohran, who ran a really good campaign, spent a lot of time talking about making the city cheaper to live in, something voters actually care quite a lot about

Representative politics is ultimately about picking the candidate you like most, or at least whos ideas get purchase. It's why the Dems movement to a nebulous average Pol is so stoopid.
I remember hearing a podcaster talk about an experience on the subway where a man was taking a literal shit in the corner of the carriage and saying New Yorkers are just looking for someone who will get things running smoothly, provide supports to ppl where needed, improve liveability. And well 🤷♀️
And at the same time made a big stink about things like ICE and confronting Tom Homan! Instead of the dullard "this is a distraction from kitchen table issues" that has infected the national party.
But what I find interesting is that I, a Brooklyn-based resident who was honestly paying only half-assed attention to the campaigns themselves, didn't hear about most of those points—what I heard was "he's a socialist!" "he's hot!" "he's pro-palestine!" (both good and bad reactions to all these btw)
When I went *looking* of course I found out about his more granular policies, which I mostly liked - but the media (and his social media fans) did a shitty job actually communicating those messages. Which isn't his fault, but I do find it interesting.
What was the negative spin of "He's hot"? Was that person just really against the idea of a Mayor they are horny for? "Elected Officials should be at most 6s. Ideally, 5s or lower!"
To be fair, it's not always conservative! Remember that dipshit republican kid who got elected, then had to resign in disgrace? I remember a fair number of Democrats dismissing his win as happening because he was an attractive young man
hahah I mean, the old adage of "politics is hollywood for ugly people" is threatened when hotties run for office! But no, the comments I saw were generally "oh people are only voting for him because he's hot" etc.
I was gonna say! Some national issues do matter in local races insofar as people want local leaders who will at least try to do things like “protect our communities from masked kidnappers” - I think a lot of people understood that Cuomo was not gonna do that!

And I believe him.
It's gonna be great!
It's akin to that film from the same era 'Black to the Future'.
Embrace reality!

You're doing a public service.
