‘Outside’ really feels like a proper Bowie LP..it’s super dense in a Diamond Dogs meets Lodger kinda way.. ‘Buddha’ is slighter but lovely..feels like it was unjustly undervalued as a ‘soundtrack’ project..the rest to me is (white) noise but I’m always listening to wiser folk from over the fence..👍

I can find a lot to like in all of them but the middle three are much more like the risk-taking Bowie of old. There’s an instrumental track on Buddha - The Mysteries - which I think is one of the best things he’s ever done.

Indeed..there’s just loads to like on Buddha..I love that it sounds subtlety different (imo) to anything else he’s done, without resorting to adopting an obvious musical genre wholesale, like say, with Earthling..but everyone’s preference is their own of course..

Against Outside and Buddah, yes it's a small 'yes' Jack. I really like side one but my interest starts to waiver a bit on side two. It's all a little one paced.

Now Heathen that followed Hours is a YES!!!!!!
I'd place it up with some of the magic has gave us in the 70's. Brilliant album

Yes, it is a bit more pedestrian than the others but I think there are songs there, particularly on side one, that lesser artists would build an entire career around.

I always think of Teenage Wildlife: track one, side two of Scary Monsters and never even saw the light of day as a B side. For anyone else it would have been the highlight of their career!
