It's a space with defined boundaries and definable static space where something weird or unnerving or unusual happens. Which I think is how I'm gonna piss off Michael Cisco, because both "a hole is a haunted house" and "the entire universe is a haunted house" are true within certain contexts.

Well, it doesn't, necessarily. Again, a haunting is kind of a weird phenomenon in and of itself, but the entire "friendly ghost" subset of children's fantasy/horror and in fact some lighter adult fantasy/horror is predicated on that premise. Usually to further drive it home, the villains are humans.

A lot of children's fantasy is "hey, monsters aren't scary, some of them are friendly! But you know what is scary? Kleptocrats and people without empathy, which as you now know is literally all but two adults."
