Used to be the internet was a place where you could say 'I don't know about this. I should look it up' and you'd find a post by someone who does know about it explaining it in (mostly) understandable language.

I would like to add that traditional search engines are not the same thing as ChatGPT.

The search engine's results are all websites created by a human (ignoring that AI generated websites and articles are polluting the results now).

Wikipedia is written by people who are sharing their knowledge.

I was gonna say, I see lots of people’s questions going unanswered so they get desperate and use AI as their last resort. Not that I condone AI, but from what I’ve seen, there currently seems to be this weird taboo about helping people or giving advice. That needs to change right now.

I’ve been specifically stubborn about not using AI for this exact reason. There are people whose jobs it is to help me. I categorically refuse to use a machine that’s built on exploitation and has a high chance of hallucinations.

Generative AI is sapping our humanity as a whole. Everything it produces feels soulless and only aims to please. So much so that it will lie to you to make you feel better or just make shit up. I asked Google a while ago if Florida was bigger than Japan and their AI feature said yes.
