Canadian households got their last Carbon Tax rebate today. We got $399 for the 1st quarter of 2025 before the 'tax' was axed (it was a levy, not a tax)...

Most of the levy was spent on gas for cars. In our area gas went down $.08/L when the levy was axed. At that rate, here's how far you would have to drive a 10L/100km vehicle to pay $399 more if the levy hadn't been axed:
Insurance companies generally assume you will drive a private vehicle about 20,000 km in a year (divide your odometer by the age of your car to see how far off that estimate is). So, that's about 5000 km in a quarter year.
Also, the price of gas will be jacked right back to where it was In a few weeks. Now that the gas companies know you will pay that for it that's what they will be selling it at.

$399 / [(.1 L/km)*($.08/L) = 49,875 km
The secondary effects on food and consumer goods and the much lower carbon levy on heating fuel don't change the equation much...
Way to go Pierre.
We should never listen to Conservatives.
