As a neutral I think itβs top drawer thinking. It remains an asset & maintains a presence up in the grill of βthe neighbours.β
Also: as a Hammer, Iβd *love* to be able to pop back to Upton Park. That will be a factor in developing the ladyball.
Thinking about womenβs football in terms of legacy.π
39,414 Everton (previously 1,000)
32,312 Leicester
18,000 Liverpool
11,300 Aston Villa
11,000 Man Utd
9,706 Crystal Palace
9,271 Spurs
7,000 Man City
6,000 West Ham
5,996 Brighton
4,850 Chelsea
4,500 Arsenal
History continues to be made at Goodison Park! πͺπΎπ
I doubt they'll reduce squat. Its capacity is what it is. More likely that they will gradually refurbish what they can over a period while utilising it in as many ways with that capacity to generate funds for its future maintenance and development.
The women's game is growing, not shrinking. It would be nonsense to hinder the stadium capacity, when it's the very thing that determines the potential for generating finances to compete with the other clubs who are now sharing their main stadiums with their men, exactly for that reason.
Couple of caveats to that.
Leicester play at the menβs stadium, the King Power.
Arsenal Women play their games at the Emirates, so the capacity is 60704.
Only Everton Women & Man City Women have their own grounds. The rest play at smaller stadiums not owned by the club.
Gonna add another - Villa play all their WSL games at Villa Park now. Sadly this didn't apply to Cup games, as Bristol Rovers found out. We didn't mind a trip to Walsall but VP would have been better...
And hence Leicester' capacity listed at 32,000. Arsenal Women only play at the Emirates on occasions for potentially big fixtures, they still play games at Meadow Park.
This has been my dream. Thank you for listening to the fans who contacted you to suggest this. Can't wait to get my season ticket for Goodison and Everton WFC. Coyb at the grand old lady still! π
Next invite the Liverpool County FA to move their headquarters from WHP into Goodison, create a proper legacy and embed our club in the footballing culture of the city for generations.
Fantastic decision this. Provides the women's team with some proper facilities and, importantly, keeps the club's future options open. Solid business decision by grown ups.
The announcement certainly softens the blow, but it still leaves the idea of a crumbling, hard to maintain Goodison Park. Personally, I'd look to rebuild the stands into a single tier, which would reduce the capacity to 25,000-3000, while retaining some of the old elements.
It's a very good look. Well done Everton. As an Arsenal fan I know how much it means for the women's game to share the main stadium. It's been a key factor in getting us to the champions League final this season.

Thereβs gonna be a few clubs fans wishing theyβd done something similar

Our ladies have their own permanent home with a significant capacity, no 2nd class priority treatment to the men.
Regardless of the debate about stadiums, I'm made up for the rise of the women's game (globally).
