A blonde woman with fluorescent, pink lipstick is seated near the door. She squirms in her seat, and grumbles as other patrons move past her. Some in tacky red hats, others in tie-dyed, American flag T-shirts. An old, fat, disheveled man shuffles toward the podium. Guess which movie this is?
A “Quiet Place: Day One” is my pitch for a movie that is profoundly sad yet also triumphant from start to finish.
Not a horror movie, barely a thriller, it’s a Platonic Romance movie where the main character experiences the actual end of the world in perfect coordination with her personal end.
Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2. I'm sappy and cry at lots of movies. I cannot remember crying harder. Well, maybe the time my wife made me watch Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron.
I always need a box of tissues nearby when I watch Penny Serenade starring Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. It takes me through a roller-coaster of emotions.
Yeah, I cry way too much 'for a boy.' But hell, I'm an old man now, so I guess it's a bit more socially acceptable. Doesn't take much to make me teary-eyed.
O SON OF BEING!
Thou art My lamp and My light is in thee. Get thou from it thy radiance and seek none other than Me. For I have created thee rich and have bountifully shed My favor upon thee.
My cat of 15yrs died in my arms today as we were trying to get him to the vet to put him down bc he was suffering. That should bring a tear if u live animals.
Ohhh, honey. I'm so very sorry. I love them, I'd them over humans, any day. My kitty is getting up in age. I had 2 Yorkies, my last one, Feb will make a year. I'm still terribly sad. I know your pain, and breaks for you. No more suffering for him. My deepest sympathies.
I read this somewhere and totally agree:
I can't watch a movie where a dog dies, but can watch a serial killer documentary where 29 people are murdered to relax at night 🤔
I visited Anne Frank house last April. The story feels so real still, after all these years. There are little bronze plaques in the cobble stone in front of homes where Nazis snatched people, entire families, with the dates they were taken and died.
Last summer, I asked my 19 year old niece,
Who lives in Texas, if she’d read the book. She is an avid reader. She had never heard of Anne Frank. Today’s kids want to read fantasy garbage because history is being taken away from them.
The end, oh my god… I had to call my mom to settle me down … it wasn’t even just sad tears, I was almost inconsolable. History repeats itself if you do nothing. Something like that.

Don't let the fact that it's animated fool you, it's one of the most devastating and heartdestroying movies ever made

Another guaranteed tear jerker,
Beautiful Boy.
The final scene, the Roy Batty character’s “Tears in Rain“ soliloquy gets me every time.
The whole of Blade Runner is a masterpiece, but a clip of that scene can be found on YouTube.
