Glad you picked up on that, Burnout (particularly the first 4 games) were a huge inspiration for our brake-to-drift system, to date that is still one of the best feeling drift mechanic in a racing game, and we've been been heavily influenced by how those games felt.

I regularly find myself longing for the feeling that the older Burnout or latest Outrun brought me.

Simple, straight forward, chaotic racing.

Fun.

Not everything needs to be open world with lots of customisation and have hundreds of cars.

Any thoughts on Hot Shots Racing and Inertial Drift?

Oh I couldn't agree more! The Burnout series for me died when Paradise decided to be open-world. The first few games introduced us to some of the most satisfying drift mechanics in gaming, what's the point of having that if most of your roads are looong straights in an open-world setting

There's been this trend towards car customization games with 'sim-cade' handling, which has led to the death of the classic arcade racer. As for Hotshot Racing, it was great to see an old school arcade racer again, I absolutely loved it, but I've not yet played Inertial Drift but will check it out!👍

I loved Paradise, to be fair, but it had new things that made it lose old ones.

I don't find myself wanting to go back to it, probably because it's newer, but also because current games are more like it and not like the previous ones.
