Are people seriously praising the live action Lilo & Stitch ending with Nani losing custody of Lilo? Justifying that this is best for Nani?
So… considering their family being broken up by the US Government was originally an analogy for the annexation of Hawaii…
Uh huh…

And the US government is here to do it! It’s for the best!
fuck
Nani having a teleporting gun to see Lilo at her motherly and supportive neighbor’s house who adopted Lilo any time she wants while also pursuing her passion as a marine biologist.
And Lilo telling Nani to go because she knows she gave up her dreams because their parents died.
But defending this choice in the movie is very strange.
The director and character designer fought for cross-dressing Pleakley, for instance, but weren’t allowed.
So fuck dem kids, I guess!
No. Fuck that. Does Lilo frustrate Nani? Yes! But Nani also understands her on ways others can't! She cares about Lilo! What's "best for Nani" ain't best for Lilo!
Because Disney’s idea of human progress is as salient as AI’s.
It’s tiring.
Why couldn’t Nani study at a local school? Why couldn’t the neighbor have helped more without the state taking custody? No one knows.
Asking for non-violent reasons.
There’s people outright pretending CPS doesn’t have a terrible track record with indigenous kids.
Well I am with you, friend. We can like the classics while criticizing the company!
Learning it's not is actually upsetting.
Hawaii has marine biology programs!
They’re clearly supposed to be cash grabs, but why do they also have to be TERRIBLE?
I’d personally be sick.
actually, calling it now. Liva Action Elsa is going to steal Hans from Anna at the end of the live action Frozen. both girls get husbands.
Also with Lucía on this, I personally choose to read into it that Elsa isn’t straight, but its giving Disney too much credit
I think claiming Elsa is queer is giving Disney too much credit to begin with, and I refuse to give them such credit.
Give us real representation, not vibes that can be read that way.
at the same time people reading into characters and making otherwise straight characters and/or actual people into queer icons is not a new development
I’m saying the corporation doesn’t deserve credit.
Give us real rep, you cowards!!!
The government pinky swears that Lilo will go live with the nice neighbor lady and not be passed around the foster care system.
It’s sickening.
Everyone knows Hawaii doesn’t have oceans or schools.
How upsetting.
A few of the most beloved people in my life are on the spectrum. This is so upsetting.
“Colonialism is best for everyone! Don’t worry about it!”
*Oh no.*
Yeah she runs off to the mainland to study marine biology because apparently Hawaii didn’t have any programs like that???
Now it’s *checks notes* give your troubled sister with behavioral issues due to trauma to the state and run off to the mainland.
Because there’s no marine bio programs in Hawaii???
The government pinky swears that Lilo will go live with the nice neighbor lady and not get kicked around in the foster care system, so…
Also yes, agree with all of that!
I’m a writer and VA myself. Love to find a fellow indie creator making cool stuff! 🤗
if Disney felt that Nani couldn't get a happily ever after without financial stability, let her get a job closer to home
Does Hawaii not have oceans???
I didn’t even plan on seeing it and still don’t, but they f’ing did WHAT??
Like, I’m legit speechless and at a loss for words.
The closest thing I can think of is that Starlord “What” meme to express my disbelief. Just, WHAT.
But the problem is, she’s still in foster care, which means she’s a ward of the state. They can take her at any time.
All so Nani can attend a college in CA. Apparently Hawaii has no marine biology programs??
Oh my gosh, who on their board approved this ending change??
Who asked for an ending like this after the original’s ending, you know? There’s already so many saddening endings in media and real-life. The fact that they took the escapism for everyone with this ending, just saddening.
I don’t get it either. 😔

They said the same thing about Mulan and Little Mermaid. @ladyjazzington.bsky.social and I saw both and both were terrible.
I might hate-watch this movie when it comes to Disney+ but hearing it praised is just aggravating
Like, the best live-action remake's probably Jungle Book or Aladdin. Those were just forgettable, instead of outright offensive.
The undercurrent of pro-colonialism alone is gross.
But advocating for individuality against community goes against the original film’s values entirely.
Yeah "I get it" but yoj could've done this SO much better instead of trusting tje American government God this just makes me very upset.
That's why Disney live action remakes sell billions by default, while Bob Iger is pleased with himself, that smug bastard.
DO NOT
THEY WILL USE YOUR WATCHING THE MOVIE TO SAY "LOOK AT HOW WELL THIS DID" AND MORE STUFF LIKE THIS WILL GET GREENLIT
Just pirate the stupid thing if you're going to hate-watch, or, just don't, and just watch a good movie instead
