Local organizers here continue to ask "where are the young people", but when they do show up, their ideas and methods of protesting are shouted down. They're shamed for not "listening to their elders who have been protesting for decades." And I'm like, if you people had the right ideas for fighting

YUP. That’s how society’s been treating “young people” since the 2008 recession. We’re not allowed to “grow up,” or take any leadership roles anywhere. Millennials are still getting it as we turn 40. It’s like everything stopped in 2008, and wherever you were in your life then is where you’re stuck.

We need more people to take Bernie’s example - they’re way past retirement. They need to focus their energy on helping the next generation grow and achieve on their own terms and with their own talents. This clinging to power thing fully reads as extremely selfish.

It’s not lost on me that the people who say that sometimes are the people who want to be treated the most as elders but may have given the least, especially considering how many died or are still in prison. But they’ll be vicious on young people doing the work.

It’s almost as though those with power don’t realize they can reduce protests by tackling the conditions that demand protest. Truly, a cynical but optimistic view (can co exist!) says we can reduce dissatisfaction by treating people like human beings.
