I was asked not to talk about politics or alcoholism. My wife & I spent a lovely day at home, just the 2 of us. I honestly don't know why we haven't been doing this for years.
We did the same. I was a little bummed out nothing else came up (last year we were able to sneak out to visit friends who live nearby and are on the same page as us ideologically), but relieved I didn't have to deal with ANY of it after having a bad falling out with in-laws post-election.
This just wasn't the year to force it. We have a granddaughter that in danger of getting caught up in the mass deportation. Our niece is transitioning. I'm the only member of my family that's found recovery. And, this whole election cycle has been exhausting.
I'm so sorry to hear you're dealing with such a challenging concern over your granddaughter and niece. I too have a lot of loved ones who are immigrants or 1st gen citizens under birthright laws... and also many in the LGBTQIA+ community. It breaks my heart that so many people are this cruel.
To think that so many Americans are so ignorant or apathetic to this reality enrages me. We are told that we're better than this. We're taught to be better than this.
It began tonight, alcohol free even, a mere 2 hrs after I came home from work on the topic of WHY so many Hispanics voted against themselves. Mind blown at the limited thinking and lack of compassion in adults.
I choose to just avoid them altogether. Let them revel in their own "Thanksgiving" juices. Better for everyone's blood pressure, I'm showing my love indirectly.
Itβs important to remember: Nothing is βtoo farβ with your right wing relatives tomorrow.
Absolutely every failing and personal trauma of theirs is fair game, and not only can be used against them if they start in on politics, but *should* be. π
We will all be able to laugh at all this, four years from now.
Except for all those that got deported though.
Let's have some more turkey, celebrating offering
food to the undocumented immigrants arriving
in the US, hundreds of years ago.
Not dreading Thanksgiving dinner again this year. Itβs an only Democratic guest list. π My sister is the one who will be facing the gloating and misinfo at table so Iβll hear all about it.
Hahahaha. Not necessary. Stepdad didn't say much to me after last night's "moment"... Steered away from anything real. We all talked about YouTube videos and my boys gave updates on their dating adventures. π
If it does come up, you can remind them that health care is a human right as outlined in the 1948 UDHR, drafted by a committee that included Eleanor Roosevelt, and signed by the United States.
Elon Musk publicized the names of government employees he wants to cut. Itβs terrifying federal workers. They are becoming the personal targets of the worldβs richest man β and his legions of followers.
Just play the womeninmalefields thread and see steam coming from MAGA men's ears. You won't need to touch on politics to see how snowflakes melt so quickly. Let the fun beginπ

It's too much all at once.
I had it twice. Once when they did hernia surgery while I was awake.
A second time when they did cataract surgery on an eye.
I did not care either time. At peace.
Would be handy for dinner with a Trump supporter.

I've got 9 years of pent up rage just waiting to be uncorked.
Seem fair

Good times!
Thankfully, the two relatives who bring this side out of me aren't going to be at our family Christmas this year ππ
Happy thanksgiving.π¦
