@janisirwin.bsky.social is one of our MLAs. She represents a section of the city in our provincial legislature, and she is really cool. (Actually, Janis, DM me, let's talk about our Worldcon bid.) The man she's with is Nathan Fillion, local celebrity.

You probably recognize Nathan from his 5-episode arc in the Hugo-nominated television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was hot priest before Fleabag made it cool to be a hot priest.

Okay existential crisis averted, back to Fillion. We are talking about him because he is from here, and with his very long and varied filmography, is probably the most famous of our Edmonton sci-fi ties.

He stops by town occasionally, too, perhaps most notably for a visit to the Nathan Fillion Civilian Pavilion. And not the first time we had a Nathan Fillion Civilian Pavilion when our city hall briefly held the name.
