It’s my favorite book series, I’ve read (listened to) it 8 times through. I have heard it is a slow burn through the first 3 books and then it picks up, but I don’t really see it.
It kinds of depends on the book tbh. Some are PEAK fantasy fiction, some..are there. But they really do all come together really well. Just be aware that they were definitely written primarily in the 90 and early 00s.
There are things the books do super well, but there are things the show does better. The books are fantastic with representations of lore, history, cultures, multiple systems of supernatural power, etc. You feel like you are immersed in a complex world…
The show is better with romantic relationships, avoiding awkward/annoying gender tropes, and making queer subtext (a subtext that was in the books) no longer a subtext. And also moving through the plot efficiently.
They are in practically every Fantasy lovers top 10 of all time and most of their top 5. They are not perfect and its alot of words but its more nuanced than the show which is also great.
Agreed with the others, this was my favorite book series of ALL TIME, but the show is giving me things I didn’t get in the books. If you can deal with a few books of Rand being a whiny little B* you’ll love it 😂 Book 3 is fire. Book 4 is fire. Book 5 is fire. Etc. Dovie'andi se tovya sagain. 🎲
i am honestly only listening to the audiobooks because Rosamund Pike is reading them. The books do have a tendency to plod and there are so. many. characters.
I read the first few but got increasingly frustrated with the constant introduction of new characters and subplots without apparent resolution or even forward motion for most. I'm told that changes the further on you go, but I gave up after 3.
