Def grackle. Both grackles and crows are frequent around here (in the East). Grackles are both smaller and slimmer with longer tail feathers. You get to recognize the profiles.

Such a rascal!!! We had one yesterday and we could see he was very hot. So we put out apple. He took some pieces and came back for more today. So smart.
They are very smart creatures, indeed. Our city blackies are uber smart, too, they seem to thrive in this urban jungle. And many people like to watch them and tell stories about their intelligence.
They know you better than you know them. They watch you every day. I used to have one that helped me load my truck for work every morning. Man, I just loved that.
I told my hub that in my next life,I want to come back as a raven so that I can pull tricks on people. As a kid, I recall afterVetsDay,all the little flags placed on veterans'graves were disappearing. One by one.The town had a thief & it bugged us.
Eventually, flags were found in a big raven nest.🤗
I watched a seagull steal a big bag of potato chips when a family went for a swim. He waited around for a good length of time and snatched the bag the minute they headed out. LOL
I saw some black birds stealing sugar packets off a table and then dipping them in the pool because the wet packets were easier to tear open. Freakishly smart.
This is about a jay - My Uncle Bruce was standing by the wall on Trailridge Road, putting his sandwich together. As he turned slightly to get the top piece of bread, a bluejay flew by, grabbed the meat and flew away again.
I would leave large plastic trash bags outside for pickup. I noticed chicken bones and small pieces of food had been plucked out from the inside through small holes. Finally, I caught several black birds that had learned what the bags meant and how to navigate through them. Now I use bins only.

Well, whatever those birds are, I think they're cool, too.
