Looks like consultants at least are trying to pick up physical climate scientists in opportunistic hires.
Here's an example from Deloitte, w a variety of other geographies:
NOAA is taking heavy losses today. Hope the rest of the community will do what we can to help scientists land on their feet.

White House: WE NEED THAT DATA NOW!!!
Privateers: A lack of planning on your part is not an emergency on our end. Pay up or fuck off.
ultimately of course this means the fed will have to pay a premium to that company to do what NOAA used to do themselves internally right
There is some absolutely phenomenal talent being laid off today :(
Medical Care - Private
Post Office - Private
NOAA - Private
Air Traffic Control - Private
National Parks - Private
ETC.
But I don't see how a private entity can replace all the instrumentation and data gathering infrastructure NOAA has... it takes a government to do that.
There is no private sector replacement for the science ecosystem that NOAA and the other federal science agencies provide.
as someone who's familiar the re-insurance world (underwriting, actuary), I know you have a lot of wisdom to share
love your title, "Head of Catastrophe"
But I think there's someone leading our country right now that's more deserving of that eponym
“The holy marketplace will save us all.”
Worked great for Chile
But they also have families and bills, so personally, my first priority is the science community supporting those who are hurting today.
Never waste a crisis!
The entire US will be like Florida for property insurance not too long from now. Companies aren't going to spend on the info they got from govt work, they'll just deny.
Another one. 🤦♀️
