I worked in offshore oil, planning new projects. We would survey the seabed to decide on facility locations and pipeline routesA. You could see trawl damage in the survey images, even in areas where trawling had stopped. I was deeply shocked, and I was supposed to be one of the bad guys.
Capitalism is a system that through violence converts every valuable thing in the world into money and gives this money to a small group of people who already have more money than they can possibly spend.
Sadly we learn almost daily how destructive humans can be.Ths is literally the bottom!Ths doesn't seem safe 4any part of marine life.Dn't know the answer bt is there a safer place 2do ths if they can't be🛑? I didn't know ths is where minerals come frm. As I use my phone,I feel sad, guilty&helpless.😥
There are people trying to develop less invasive ways of harvesting minerals from the ocean floor (submersible robots that can pluck mineral deposits without disturbing nearby terrain)
I never understood why scientists or whoever it is, always feels the need to put their mitts on anything n everything. Some things need to be left alone.
it is amazing there still exist greedy dinosaurs in the petroleum industry pursuing this kind of 0-sum industrial revolutionist thinking; indiscriminate razing of our mother earth
But they are putting planes down there. Like an expensive condo for fish. Wonder if the fish like the 180 million dollar plane housing trump gave them?
The consequences of deep-sea mining on marine life and human food supplies, in addition to those on hurricanes and tsunamis, are incalculable. The world will never recover.
There was some similar footage to this in Attenborough's 2023 documentary Wild Isles. When I first saw it, it made me feel physically sick (even more so than the mating slugs).
Anybody denying climate change or the incredible damage being done by many industrial practices like this is a LIAR, IGNORANT, most importantly is not a friend of the earth. THEY MUST be treated as enemies to humanity for the sake of future generations. They do not care what happens when theyr gone
I’ve always hated this! Should be illegal! Factory trawler fishing should be banned.
There are over 10,000 illegal Chinese vessels “fishing” right now!
People can’t see it so there is no outrage and protest.
Thanks for posting
Oh here we go . First man dirties our air then our Mother Earth as we destroy her but now it’s the bottom of our oceans upsetting live creatures that call it home and the damage it’s going to do
From reading Outlaw Ocean, it’s clear that this won’t even stop with a ban. Some Asian country will still have a ship out there doing stuff like this. Disgusting. Don’t even get started on cruises🤢🤢
This was banned in the 1990‘s so is this recent footage or somewhere besides USA? Fisherman off the coast of Florida tracked anyone doing this and “politely” told them to stop destroying fishing spots. They have their ways in open sea.
Bottom trawling must become big news to people who think trawl fisheries are harmless or that seabed dredging for minerals is efficient.
This should OUTRAGE everyone.
What happened to the Fishery Observer program?
Are trawling and industrial fishing vessels exempt from onboard oversight and reporting??
This is not "incidental take".
This is pillaging and clearcutting the marine environment.
Annihilation of biological and genetic diversity beneath the water line.
I worked on a factory trawler as a young lad. The North Atlantic had vast schools of cod, halibut, perch and others. The factory below deck ran 24 hrs and often couldn't keep up with the massive hauls. At night you could see similar 300 foot factories in every direction.
That abundance is gone.
In the 80s on Long Island we used to see horseshoe crabs, skate egg cases, clam shells etc dotted all along the beach. I havnt seen a living horseshoe crab since early 90s.. We have learned absolutely NOTHING from history.. 😔😡
I have a book printed in 1861, ”the book of inventions” that stated, bottom trawling is not a good method of fishing because the destuction of sea bottoms and destroy the habitate for crustations and fishes. A conclution made in 1861 !!!
I'd hate to have my bottom destroyed by trawling too...
That being said, it helps to remember that one day we'll all be extinct, and nature'll still be here. And it has taken worse beatings.
There won't be any fish left in sea because bottom trolling destroys nursery habitats for fish. One wonders why a major loss in certain fish species. Another incident of large major corporations avoiding any form of environmental regulations or consequences for destruction of the environment
It's just fishing and mining, right? We've been doing it forever. The ocean will fix itself eventually, I'm sure. They said the same thing about the rainforest and look how that turned out!
At this rate we are all better off destroying it before these buffoons just destroy us for more money. I feel for future generations. They will be the ones who won’t know what a free, safe and stable world was like.
There are better ways to harvest and preserve the future crops, yet many are stuck in the Stone Age and should never have been allowed out of their caves in the first place, yet unfortunately this is the human race, the misfits of nature that stand out of place 😡😡🕊️❤️🔥🌟🙏
Not necessarily friend, how much can one person eat, how much food is wasted upon this world daily, it’s generally for profit and greed, no need at all, of which is why eventually humanity will crumble and fall when they’ve eaten and destroyed everything they can, they never should have began 🤷♂️😡🕊️❤️🔥🌟🙏
Post is about deep sea mining Trump authorized that will kill massive numbers of animal life, not killed for food. Destroying the ocean bed, disrupting the eco system, the chemistry of the water, the area will no longer sustain life. Like cutting down the Amazon Rainforest, it will effect all life.
I am so totally against everything that son of a b**** wants to do. Destroy your National parks. Destroy your clean waters. Destroy everything that meant anything to you Americans that was good and clean. He is one dirty rat and he needs to be removed from office immediately!
The guy behind this has about another 10 years left before he dies. He doesn't care who he hurts today, tomorrow or ever. He just wants to leave his mark. It doesn't matter if it's a huge scar. We'll remember it's HIS scar. And that's all he cares about.
At least in areas with polymetallic nodules the ecosystems are high biodiversity but very low biomass, mostly bacteria, polychete worms, some sponges, crustaceans, and bottom fish.
Please Lord, take us from this Earth, so the planet can be saved from us Heathens.
Were too immature to be responsible for a beautiful planet like this?
Agree. My first experience as a young deckhand fishing up in the Bering Sea was on one of these boats. I was shocked and in disbelief when I witnessed the first haul. I have never forgot this and watching the video made it all come back.😔 I left that fishery/boat immediately for crabbing.
Should be illegal how damaging it is but now all the safe measures will be removed, destroying the eco system even more under this administration in the US

Glug.
Gone before you can say ‘Sub’!
Ss!
There's that.
Totally disgusting!

Much like building prisons for profit ...
We pave a path of destruction just to get some more fish.
Fish that have dangerous levels of mercury.
Stop eating fish you fucking idiots.

Democrats, always siding against humanity's flourishing.
This is unsustainable.
I feel sorry for young people.
This should OUTRAGE everyone.

Sad to see.
That being said, it helps to remember that one day we'll all be extinct, and nature'll still be here. And it has taken worse beatings.
For being so “intelligent” we sure are a destructive species.
How do we stop it?
Were too immature to be responsible for a beautiful planet like this?
Atrocious
Making the Planet unlivable
Makes no sense
The rock will continue flowing on through space..
