Given most of the Cabinet are transphobic roasters, an ideology rooted in misogyny and toxic masculinity, it doesn't surprise me at all they need a TV show to help them.

I recall Jess Phillips didn't even know who Andrew Tate was until a year or so ago, which, given her remit, was shocking.

Agree with this. Just means media moguls / tech bros can set the agenda for whatever 'cause' they feel strongly about.

Is political leadership about responding to what the public deems important due to the media it is ingesting? Or is it about setting out aims and principles and working to bring the public along with them? Our national priorities should be set by people we elect, not by commissioning editors.

Which isn't to dismiss the role the media can play in inspiring, enraging and motivating change. This programme is part of a fine pedigree stretching all the way back to Cathy Come Home. But arguably all of them have only been important because politics was failing to do its job.

I suppose the real question then is- is politics *doing* its job here? The government has shown very little stomach for addressing these issues so far. Having said that, these kind of political film show events tend in practice, to be rather empty gestures.
