The oligarchical coup has been so brazen and disgusting that people are desperate for something to mobilize behind. We've already seen calls for protests and boycotts go viral because people are dying for some type of leadership and direction.

This is a good sign. People are tired of this shit.

Boycotts can be effective, but they cannot be the end all be all of resistance. Neoliberalism relies on us embracing a "voting with your dollars" philosophy that undercuts solidarity and organizing.

This has been an essential aspect to the Neoliberal attack since its inception.

We have been reduced to customers rather than human beings, all the while representative democracy was systematically destroyed.

We should consider where our money goes and how we spend, that's part of the solution, but we cannot lose sight of how much actual organizing needs to be done.

Economic boycotts are weapons, but they also give us a chance to reconsider our own consumption, how easy it is to participate in an unethical system. To pause and reflect is essential in bringing about the type of cultural sea change that will be necessary to defeat authoritarianism.

But relying solely on economic boycotts or spending shifts as as the answer is a dead-end street. We have to organize in our workplaces and communities if we are to have a chance. Focusing on individual consumption at the expense of creating solidarity and an alternative to this terror isn't enough.

Economic action is needed, and it can't just revolve around consumption. It has to involve organizing in the workplace, walkouts, strikes, leveraging labor and production against the oligarchical class.

We SHOULD engage in boycotts and blackouts, but we also have to move beyond them.
