The proposal goes right to the stereotype of the black welfare queen, which was first introduced to the world by Ronald Reagan. The Republicans think that black people are lazy and don’t have the intelligence to work a job. This is why they attacked DEI. This is racism, and it should be called out.
Where’s all the Second Amendment fetishizers with their huge arsenals to protect themselves from government overreach?
“You’ll pry my Pepsi from my dying hands!”
Such a great point by you, and add to it a consideration of the anti-Bud Lite tantrum and: what it is with these types of people and their cult beverages?
While soda is bad for our health, the idea that impoverished folks would be the target of this ban is ridiculous. This is another way of blaming their poor health on bad choices rather than the lack universal care and high cost of of nutritious food... smh
Speaking of nutritious food... I'm on SNAP. I get $292 per month. The couple of occasions that I have been able to buy groceries netted me only about enough for a week and a half to two weeks. When we buy nutritious food, we can't afford ENOUGH food for the damn month.
“It is a ruse [by lobbying groups]… because any sort of harm to SNAP, anything that makes the program more difficult or stigmatizes it is a cut because it’s cutting off more people,” Gina Plata-Nino, a deputy director at the Food Research and Action Center, a nonprofit advocacy group, said.
This proposed ban on the purchase of pop is a joke. If he’s not going to ban the purchase of chips and other snack foods from being purchased on SNAP, then he shouldn’t target soda. There is a measles outbreak in two states, and this is what RFK Jr. can concentrate on?
He just did a promo for a burger chain where he swilled soda and horked down greasy fries. But I guess that's just for rich nepo babies to enjoy. He's a fucking asshole.
Treading adults like children, check. Maybe we the people should restrict what he can use the money we give him for. Considering he provides negative value, I consider that money charity as well.
Unlike most of his cabinet members, RFK occasionally gets things right. Unfortunately, he cancels those bright spots out with dangerous policies that will probably lead to the deaths of millions, and most of those children.
You can buy soda with SNAP
What they frown upon is when you buy a ton of cheap soda, go out into the parking lot & open all the cans & pour the soda down the drain, then go to the recycling machine & cash in to get the dime each so you have cash & can buy beer.
I just chose beer because I couldn't think of anything else.
The women I saw in the news didn't say what they were buying but just that they "didn't need the snap card" (even though they had kids) but needed the money more.
Make that make sense...
Sadly, go to the grocery store. A 2-liter of soda is 99¢, but a generic gallon of water is $1.99. Crap food is cheap, fresh veg & fruit is expensive. 😔
I just saw a post on a different social media platform telling people on food stamps to just drink water. 😐 Sure, uh, but often the poorest areas have questionable or undrinkable tap water. Look at Flint, MI which is still replacing their lead water pipes today.
Hate to say it but this makes sense. If soda were banned from the earth, guess what, humanity would survive...Soda has led to some of the WORST health outcomes in human beings, right up there with cigerattes...
This is such elitist bullshittery. He can suck down all the soda and burgers he wants because he is rich and somehow views his habits as worthy of the label of wellness- which we all know is quacked-up pseudoscience. And yet the elite must target the Lesser Than, The Poors, for their lower quality--
-2- lives that therefore qualify them as unable to decide for themselves what to put into their bodies. The idea of Rich = Good and Poor = Bad is so engrained in the mindset of people like RFK that our moral failings for needing social safety nets like SNAP imply we must not ever see a vegetable.--
-3- This ties into his deeper beliefs of eugenics and classism; his sneering self-assuredness of being correct over science, registered dieticians, medical doctors, psychiatrists, epidemiologists, etc. You only need to look at his public v private vaccine stance to know: his children are vaccinated-
-4- while the community in Samoa he encouraged to avoid the MMR vaccine was something he chose because, to paraphrase, "someone had to be the experiment".
He doesn't lobby these "beliefs" out of the goodness of his heart. He does it because he is a hateful conspiracy theorist eugenicist.

My sister drinks 20+ cans of soda a day, paid for by food stamps
