Honestly, they haven't changed once who's a DF or forsaken in the show.
I understand the death of some characters at different times for logistic reasons.
Having this change would be a huge blow because you can't explain with logistics. It'd retcon too much or introduce Mir of Mist which is a no no.

But, I can see how it’d be tempting to do this. Assuming Thom’s role continues to be “mostly gone but makes a splashy entrance every now and then.”
We'll see though when we get season 4 😅🤞
