Staffing shortages started heavily under Trumps first term & COVID. The FAA warned them an entire generation of controllers were up for retirement beginning at 55. They didn’t care. Many retired early, including my father, bec of the strain they were dealing with. It’s never recovered.

Let's be clear. The FAA has been struggling to fill ATC positions for quite some time. And since the DCA airspace is so complicated, only the best controllers are assigned there, and even then it takes months to get qualified. This is not a problem that gets fixed tomorrow.
