Doesn’t that mean almost 70% of our goods won’t be sold or the other country won’t buy it because it’s too expensive and they will shop around for the best price and probably buy it elsewhere?
And he thinks of it as two economies and populations of equal size. US is 350 million people, we are 40M. Of course we are in pure dollar terms we’re going to buy less stuff. And most of the difference is energy, not things. Per person CDNs buy $8 to $1 vs Americans buying Canadian stuff.
Donnie felon fuck brains can't do the math to know that trading with a country that is literally has no large freight cost to get the products there, is the optimum trading partner.
he may have pissed off the PM today forcing US to find new trading partners to replace trade, and it ain't that ez.
Trust me, I'm not defending the man. But with respect to GDP, Canada and Mexico are in a much more precarious position.
US exports to Mex/Can = 1.7% of US GDP
Canada exports to US = 17.6% of Canada nominal GDP
Mexico exports to US = 25.1% of Mexico nominal GDP

Yes. But I suspect Trump only sees "business" as *selling* stuff, not buying stuff. If I'm reading that graph right, 75% of Canadian Exports go to the US (ie US buying stuff), compared to 16% of US exports going to Canada (ie US selling stuff). In his head 16% is "not a lot of business".
That there is a trade deficit, which he thinks is a bad thing. He wants the US export figure to be higher than the US import figure (ie, selling more stuff than buying it), while understanding absolutely fuck all about how economics works. Like I know very little about Economics...
...but I'm not dumb enough to think that a trade deficit is necessarily bad, especially when you account for trade other than goods, such as IT services, and other non-tangible stuff that the US also sells, that he's almost certainly not taking into account cos he doesn't understand what they are.
It’s great when you call out Trump’s hourly stupidity and cluelessness. Too bad traditional broadcast and print media don’t do the same—they’re still stuck pretending there’s nuance where there’s only nonsense.

- spit on the face of your best customers
- raise your prices

DT showed us that we need to expand our horizons. This means we might not have as much to send there anymore.
Now we're setting up new networks & signing deals with countries that will honor & not break them.
With respect.
And Canadian exports too the US too, but nearly compensated by experts to other countries.
