The NY Times and Wall Street journal should also pay local newspapers, right? Local delivery across the country of those NY newspapers did a lot of harm to local newspapers. I canceled my local papers years ago when NYT arrived. (I have resubscribed since then, but the effect was real.)

This is difficult to understand how this will benefit local news rooms in Oregon. Doesn’t Facebook provide more traffic to those newsrooms? If so, how much? Is the ad revenue lost from that traffic worth it? Can users still post direct links to those newsrooms? Article doesn’t answer these questions
