A thriller could be a good option, especially one not too long. I read The Housemaid in a day and it definitely left me feeling excited to read more. There are also a lot of short horror novellas that could be good options.
I know I'm big on romance so in a slump I pick up a short romance
I tend to go for a slim page count to ease myself back in. Two brilliant short novels I’ve read this year: Real Cool Killers by Chester Himes and The Outsiders (S E Hinton)
Things that have helped me:
- switching up format to audiobooks or physical copy instead of e-reader
- changing genre to something completely different
- rereading an old favorite that I know I love
What has never worked for me:
- trying to force myself to keep reading the book I’m slumping with
Sometimes what works for me is to go back to an old favorite and re-read. It's okay to just step back and get caught up in some other area of your life for a bit, too.
