and here's the texture comparison so far, most of the work so far is on the dust cover but i'm just improving the lighting, fixing up seams, adding more pixel level grain/detail since the original here is was AI upscaled from 1024 to 2048 for the remaster and painting at target res is sharper

here's the shading comparison, i added a bunch of hard edges and assigned custom face weighted normals in Blender to a bunch of parts to flatten out the shading where possible, without editing the geometry so far (i do plan to do so later but i did not want to re-rig the model yet)
