Happens all the time in primary. They want to do a deep dive into history, art, geography maths and English but no one is teaching history or art on the two days, you have to make it happen for them .
Also they might want to see “normal” but in most primaries this is impossible because the leaders they want to do a “deep dive” or “shallow paddle” with or who they want to interview are usually teaching full time, so they won’t see their class operating as usual.
They should, they don’t always. One school I support had an ad hoc deep dive on day 2, the teacher was pulled out of class at 20 minutes notice, the HLTA who covered at short notice was visited by inspectors. Feedback was that her lesson wasn’t as strong as the 2 parallel classes 🙄
IME inspectors can only see the lessons planned on those days. Nobody should be expected to ‘produce’ lessons/subjects. And now Sur Martin has said this - HTs need to quote this at Leads/HMI
I think most heads don’t want to speak up. If they’re told Ofsted is looking at a particular subject , they’re probably going to make sure it’s being taught. This is why the current framework is really not great for primary or EY
That would be what I prefer. They *should* see a normal day. If they need more, there should be another acceptable ready of demonstrating; otherwise, it's unnecessarily disruptive for teachers and children.
