I broke my femur in Italy in 2004 & spent 15 days in the hospital for surgery to screw it back together (Italians believe in restoration more than replacement). The bill turned out to be the same as the cost of an FDNY ambulance ride in the USofA.
The US number is just about exactly right. Did mine last year and it came in almost exactly at $40K.
As I recall, the surgeon was doing six knees that day. Call it a cool quarter million in revenue.
I’m gonna get a quote on knee replacements in Sevilla. After living in Andalusia for four years…I’m thinking that’d be great to hang out and recover at a nice bodega…with some pollo al ajillo and gambas al ajillo!!
I have to see an oncologist next month because my 543 pap came back showing hpv and precancer cells. I wish leaving this hellhole for Healthcare was an option. But my husband will never leave and I won't leave my kids.
Funny you posted this now. My hip is scheduled to be replaced Apr 3rd. Diagnosed as"end stage" & yeah, every step hurts a lot, I use a walker, have NO balance left but...FFS I speak decent Spanish, I have $7k+ in the bank & would LOVE to explore Barcelona. Had I known... Argh.
It's free in Spain too. That's the price if you go to private medicine because you don't want to wait and can afford it. A friend of mine had his right hip bone replaced in a very fancy clinic with all the luxury and it was less than 10k.
In his case he had to wait around 4 months because it was not deemed urgent (he was in his 40's and in good health and shape overall). It's not great, but not terrible either.
A friend's daughter got a gastric bypass surgery done in Tijuana a couple of years ago for something like 1/4th of what it would've cost in North Carolina, where she & her daughter live. Researched the doctor & reviews, asked lots of questions, and it worked out fine.
See us normal people understand this, but to put it in perspective for conservatives, it can't hip replacement surgery. It has to be penis enlargement surgery.
Im an 🇺🇸 living and wrking in Spain. Was diagnosed 13 months ago w cancer. Im now in remission and I paid max. 300 euros total for my meds up to today., which im still taking. Everything incl..
I just had a full left hip replacement a few months ago. So far the results have been nothing short of shockingly spectacular. I had a Medicare Advantage plan. Spent the night in the hospital after surgery which began around 9AM. Total out of pocket cost was $25. Plus another $75 for prescriptions.

I mean, everyone has to vote for fair healthcare etc
Demand action from your politicians?
(In Spain, there are wealth taxes, now the President is proposing increasing property taxes for external to #EU buyers... )
That was good

It's outrageous that my wife and I pay $8000 per year in retirement after paying into Medicare for all are working careers.
I believe paid public health insurance in America would restore the American Dream for All .
I desperately want that for my kids
Remove them--- and their profit model--- and teh prices will come down.
I can't comment on the cost of surgery, but the US is ridiculous.
