I went to a tiny little non-denominational gospel hall growing up, which was super spartan; we didn't even have a piano for hymns. This past Easter, my sister convinced me to go to church with her family, which was a more traditional Baptist church. 1/2

Going from "all hymns were sung a capella" to "having a full band that would play background ambience during the sermon" was jarring. It felt...wrong, somehow. Fake. Like the performance and the spectacle were more important than the message.
