On the contrary, porn addiction gets far *more* attention than its actual frequency merits. The level of porn use where it is *actually* directly harming your life is much rarer than the perception of someone as "addicted" or "out of control" because porn is seen as inherently harmful.

Yeah, but saying that porn addiction is "not as big of a deal as initially thought" is way different than "porn addiction just outright does not exist" which the latter is the point I'm argue against.

I feel like there's a language disconnect when people say "X behavioral addiction does/does not exist." Any behavior can become compulsive, and any behavior will be detrimental if you do it to the exclusion of everything else in your life. To say that "X addiction" exists as its own discrete (1/2)

syndrome requires it to be more than that. I'm not a doctor or a psychologist so I can't give you the exact requirements, but it's similar to how "video game addiction" isn't considered a real thing, despite the fact that some people do play so many video games that it becomes a problem.

It concluded people who were brought up in religions that are 'morally' opposed to porn feel bad after watching porn.

That's something entirely different from addiction, which would require that person becoming

The problem with addictive drugs is that quitting all at once can kill you.

The post that I was responding to literally quoted "porn addiction isn't real." I can clearly see what the article says, however not everyone took the time to diagnose it which led to them coming up with the quote "porn addiction isn't real." That's all I was arguing against, not really the article.

And I also know that porn doesn't kill you like drug addictions. But like drug addictions, porn addicts still suffer withdrawal symptoms and negatives effects on the mental and emotional well-being of the individual. That's all I'm trying to say. It's a real problem.
