Picking up my award for UK Public Library Project Of the Year shortly for my work with indie presses and promoting marginalised voices. Five ton cash prize, already halved that with the lass i manage, gonna spend my share on a tattoo π

π₯° thanks. The Work is the thing, nice to be recognised of course but the fact that outside of yesterday, this work's being picked up and advocated for nationally in different ways through different channels is so great after all these years of me trying without being able to influence it till now β
Never fails to be a source of wonder to me it's in libraries. June 2023 - June 2024 the book sold 250 copies; in exactly the same time period, 620-odd library loans, that's nearly 2.5 x the amount. Particular type of magic, that.
Cheers! It's nice it's for something properly worthwhile that benefits an awful lot of people rather than some niche internal thing no one outside libraries cares about; but it's the impact of the work and the fact that - outside of this - it's getting national traction now that really buzzes me.
Cheers comrade. Not usually a fan of these things but if I'm gonna win an industry award I'm really glad it's for something that benefits so many people, y'know? Cos that's the name of the game β
I won't do it now cos I'm a bit manic but can share some really great updates on this [and related] with you guys tomorrow. Gimme a prod if I forget, I'd appreciate the reminder. You'll be v happy tho.
Srsly tho i'm unusually proud of this cos it's so important to me and after a decade of agitation locally, it's amazing to see it getting national traction. Like, the work and the good it does writers, pubs, communities is all that matters to me but the fact it's recognised in this way is lovely.
No absolutely, I see that. Because most people donβt look far for their next book, film, piece of music. So to have someone pushing the excellent work of small publishers, from the margins, is a great thing.
And as i just said in my "acceptance speech" small presses build in "diversity" cos they publish queer, working class, ethnic global majority (etc) writers. Shouldn't be such a thing as "diverse stock" as a separate category - get the buying right and it's done by default cos everyone is represented

Cheers! It's all for the greater good - i said onstage, benefits writers, readers, publishers, communities, libraries so it's win/win. Righteous fight to be fighting and i been lobbying for at least a decade, stoked i can influence it nationally now and the message is getting thru βοΈβοΈβοΈ
Cheers! Outside today it's being advocated for nationally now through my work with other orgs, and is being picked up and implemented - with great success - by other services. This is only the start but I've been calling for it for years and while the award is nice, the penny dropping is best!
Cheers! Been banging this drum for ten years but it's great that now I've been in a position to influence it the last two or three years, it's getting proper traction - outside yesterday - at national level and there's some really exciting stuff on the cards, potentially, with some big players π

It the title of a Bukowski book and always profoundly connected with me for various reasons. I can't deal with his woman-hating but i'm not attributing it and he nicked it from the actual Buddha so no drama πβοΈ
You're SO good at the kind of wordplay that is glaringly obvious when i see it but i wouldn't think of in a million years. Truth & Dare is full of it π€π€π€π€π€π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯
Nice one. Plenty more on the cards outside this too, as you know, the libs con stuff is gonna have some great outcomes in the medium- to long-term. I'll keep ya posted πβοΈ
